The Island Beach lies within Robberg Nature Reserve, a CapeNature-managed peninsula and marine protected area about 8km south of Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route. The reserve is also a World Heritage Site, with Stone Age cave sites, three circular hiking trails of varying length, and regular sightings of seals and dolphins along its rocky shoreline.
