Doreen Clark Nature Reserve is a small mistbelt forest reserve in Hilton, just north of Pietermaritzburg, donated by the Clark family and kept for its birdlife. A gentle forest trail of roughly one and a half kilometres runs past a stream and grassland, taking one to two hours and suiting children and older visitors alike. Birders come for species such as the Narina Trogon and African Emerald Cuckoo. A pet-park directory lists a dog-friendly trail here, though the reserve itself does not publish a pet policy.
