Start of Sacramento Trail

This is the trailhead for the Sacramento Trail, a roughly 5.6km coastal loop through the Sardinia Bay Nature Reserve between Schoenmakerskop and Sardinia Bay outside Gqeberha. The moderately challenging route takes about an hour and passes seasonal wildflowers, coastal fynbos and sweeping sea views, with gannets and dolphins sometimes visible offshore. A bronze cannon at Schoenmakerskop marks the wreck of the Portuguese galleon the trail is named for. Dogs are welcome on a leash, with ample parking at the start.
