De Onderstepoort Private Nature Reserve is a state-owned buffer zone around the Agricultural Research Council's disease-testing and serum facilities in Onderstepoort, Pretoria. Despite its restricted purpose, it is open for hiking and horse riding trails, picnics and a children's playground, taking in a wetland system and a granite koppie on the platinum belt. Facilities for visitors are limited, and it is best suited to those after a quiet, low-key outdoor outing.
Note from SitnStay: Listed on a pet-directory site as having a dog-friendly trail and open field, though this could not be independently confirmed with an official source.
