High above Hermanus in the Kleinrivier Mountains, Fernkloof protects around 18 square kilometres of exceptionally rich fynbos, with more than 1,250 recorded plant species and a 60 km network of graded trails climbing from the town's edge towards Walker Bay viewpoints. Entry is free, toilets are available, and a visitors' centre displays what is currently flowering. Dogs are welcome on the lower Blue Route only, must stay on a lead at all times, and owners are required to pick up after them.
