Umhlanga Beach is the wide, Blue Flag swimming beach fronting uMhlanga Rocks on Durban's North Coast, backed by a paved promenade lined with hotels, restaurants and the uMhlanga lighthouse landmark. It is a favourite for swimming, surfing and early morning or sunset walks. Dogs are permitted on-leash on the northern stretch of beach between Breakers Hotel and the lagoon, and along the promenade, though not within the main Blue Flag bathing section, with access sometimes restricted over the festive season.
