Virginia Beach is a long, open stretch of sand in Durban North, close to Virginia Airport and between Umhlanga and the city centre. It draws surfers, walkers and dog owners rather than the tourist crowds further south. Local guides note dogs are permitted on leash, with off-leash hours typically before 9am and after 6pm during the cooler months under KwaZulu-Natal's seasonal beach rules.
Note from SitnStay: dogaccessories.co.za and ECR list Virginia Beach among Durban's dog-permitted beaches with a leash requirement; KyronVetRx notes dogs may run off-leash before 9am and after 6pm from November to April under the region's seasonal rule.
